Productivity

Today I was supposed to be a clerk
And finish all the tasks that piled high.
Instead I didn't do a lick of work;
Just prowled around and howled at the sky.
I crooned a love song to the distant moon
And scratched the fleas that crowded round my head;
I sang again, this time a different tune,
Then chased my tail until my feet were dead
Tired. And I did all this because
It still seemed better than the work I had.
And, as I think, I realize it was
And that itself I might consider bad
If I did not - as I believe I do -
Think what I did instead has value too.
