Oh, Balls

Emotions are a set of billiard balls
Knocking across the table into pockets.
You're good or lucky if the right one falls
But all too often, if unskilled, one rockets
Far from the other it was aimed to hit,
And bounces wildly out of control.
Sometimes you think that one might barely fit
Between two others, but don't bet your soul,
Because too often it will ricochet
Off one, or both, that you thought it would miss;
Too often, rolling on their merry way,
They dodge the ones you meant for them to kiss,
And slam into another. Each collision
Seems independent of the best precision.
