I never thought. That's at the core of it.
I didn't think about what this would do to you,
Or anyone. I thought how it would fit
Into my own preciously held worldview
But not how anybody else would be
Affected by my actions. If I had,
I think it possible, indeed likely,
I would have found a reason, ironclad
And undebatable, to have refused
To do what I, for my own reasons, did.
I was not foolish, or a bit confused,
But merely selfish. What my wishes bid,
I chose to do. I'm sorry you were hurt
By something in my power to avert.
