Distances

When you are far away I do not know
What I should do, or who I really am.
I don't mean that, in any way, you owe
Me anything, or ought to give a damn,
But merely that, in some way, when you're here
I have a greater sense of purpose, and
Because you are the point by which I steer,
I feel more certain I can find the land.
This is an issue which only concerns
Me, and not you, although I might pretend
That, like my own, your dear heart also yearns
To be with me, and so in time will tend
To bring you to me. If that should be true
You understand how much I still miss you.
