Newly Improved and Corrected

I won't pretend it might not be worthwhile
To hold my tongue more often than I do,
To sit around and more silently file
My thoughts away, and not make much ado.
Of course it's about nothing, in some ways;
It always is, and that's how it should be:
Too much solidity obliquely strays
Into an overworked solemnity
And cannot extricate itself as well
As light, unrooted speculation can.
If this has worked for me, I cannot tell,
But this is why I hate a blanket ban.
Perhaps it's better being quiet, but
It's very hard to keep my damn mouth shut.
