Warranty

Too too much schlock can wear upon the soul,
Grating against the better parts of man.
Excessive sap can also take its toll,
And so too over-adoration can.
If all of this is dangerous to do,
Why is it that we still engage in them?
Why do we serenade, pursue and woo;
Why do we not instead ban and condemn
The impulse to express in overplus
Our sentimental selves? Why do we let
Such subtle, harmful, and insidious
Tendencies to settle and to set
Within us? Why? Because they're far too pleasant
In every moment when they are still present.
