Forgive My Unbelief

I can't believe I'm still in love with you
Not from some doubt that says I shouldn't be,
But rather since, each time I think it through,
I wonder how I'm still made so happy.
I would have thought by now my love would burn
Less hotly, or have burnt itself all out.
Instead - as I was very glad to learn -
It burns more brightly now. I used to doubt
That being with you could be half as good
As thinking that I was with you; but no.
I find it's better than I thought it could
Have been, and I'm in shock that it is so.
So please forgive my unbelief - I'm just
Shocked by the joy that comes from love and trust.
