Samaritan

What do you do when someone else is sad
Someone passing by you on the street,
Not someone you know, or think you know,
Who would expect some comfort should be had
From you, but someone you would never meet
Except for in this moment when tears flow
Despite the squinting eyes that seek to hold
Them back? What do you do? Do you pass by
Ignoring them, and letting them alone?
Do you impose yourself, perhaps too bold,
To comfort them, or simply ask them why
They're crying? Do you hear their little moan
And smile at them, hoping that appeal
Unobtrusively will help them deal?
