Far Away

Call me old-fashioned - who would disagree? -
But don't forget I'm also more than that.
There is a core reality to me
That goes beyond the bridge and baccarat,
Even the whist, the fullness of the past
That shines out of me: I'm myself as well,
Unique and therefore not to be miscast
As simply out of date. Oh, I can tell
You doubt me, and you giggle at my state,
My out of place imaginative whirls.
But there's enough within to compensate
As my freak flag inevitably unfurls.
Let me be who I am, although you say
My mind should have been born some yesterday.
