Dreaming

Dreams have no substance, though we, half-awake,
Imagine them to be more than they are.
The part of us that thinks we ought to take
Advice and understanding from such far-
Fetched bits of nothingness is just as wild
As that which wonders if the sky will fall
Or plans according to the zodiac.
There is no sin in dreaming; any child
Who does not dream and listen to the call
Of rambling invention feels the lack
Of true humanity. We grow, however,
And should know better than our youthful selves.
Why then is it that my own heart could never
Put aside dreams of wizards, dwarves, and elves?
