Joy Day Unalloyed

Unmiserable I am, or claim to be,
And therefore have a duty to show joy.
For in the world there's too much misery,
Too great a store of sorrow and annoy,
For those of us who, happy in our lot,
Have no complaints of depth or of import,
To borrow troubles that we possess not
As if to make another's woe our sport.
We must be merry for we have the cause
And revel, so our joy may be expressed;
'Tis not for us to note too many flaws,
Or feign to be, as others are, depressed.
So if you share my fullness of delight,
Sing out and say so: it is only right.
