Mayflowers

I cannot long await the day
When she and I will be together
But as when skies are dark and gray
Yielding to winter's foul weather
Holding no heat and letting by
The ice that freezes souls and limbs
And we look up and wish the sky
To brighten, and it only dims,
I know I must wait still; but knowing-
Just as we do on those days
Even though it may start snowing
Summer come will loose the haze-
That my waiting will, and soon
Be rewarded by a June.
