Festering

Lilies fester worse than weeds
Yet they fester rather less;
Weeds are festered from the seeds,
Making a gigantic mess,
Lilies are a beauty first
Only festering with age;
Which shall we then say is worst?
What should be disgust's best gauge?
Is it beauty falling down
Into what it never was
Or a never-ending frown
Ever-present just because?
Either way we must dispose
Of the corpse once its stink grows.
