Two Ways

They're splitting Fourth Street so it goes two ways;
Third Street was undone the same way too.
The yellow marks are down; the lights ready to raise
To blink from red to green on something new.
As if the city didn't have, already,
A pair of streets to take the traffic through:
Consistent, simple, wide, and ever-steady
Prepared to take you where you want them to.
From two streets, each contributing its whole,
We have created four lanes recombined
A stitched-together pair without a soul
Unnatural to how they were designed.
Yet on the street, despite how it looks strange
I have to say: it's better for the change.
