Absolution

I'm not sure I should tell you what I think.
What good would that do either of us? No,
It's better to let contemplation sink
Into oblivion. The seeds I'd sow
By telling you my mind might never sprout
But if they did, what terrors they would raise.
Far better to inculcate greater doubt
By silence, than to cause you to appraise
A certainty in knowledge, and decide
Based on my words, and through them on my thought.
Instead I'll let the danger in me hide
Unspoken and, if you are wise, unsought.
Dishonesty? Perhaps. But it is best
That what is in me should stay unconfessed.
